Introducing CTIF2024: #UnderTheHood

As per our tradition, this is a multilayered invitation to the African civic tech ecosystem and its supporters to consider the times and opportunities we are in. The conference will take place between the 28th and 31st October 2024, at the Tshimologong Precinct.

This year, we are getting #UnderTheHood of:

Technology: What is “under the hood” of the emerging technologies vehicle, i.e., in the tech “black box”? In an age where trust, equity, and governance are in critical focus, we want to scrutinize tech – from questions of Al transparency (Al code, data, and algorithms), all the way to understanding and building opportunities for endogenous tech development and innovation. How can we actively side-step Africa being seen only as tech victims and consumers, to greater self-determination based on knowledge and empowerment?

Community: What is within our own ‘hoods or communities? How can we spot, build, and use our local creativity, energies, and resources to develop the capacities that we collectively want and need? Who are we waiting for?

Self: And what lies under our hoodies? What talents, skills, passions, and capabilities are held in those shadows that are often assumed to hold mischief and danger? Are we hoodlums or geniuses, activists, champions, creatives, and nurturers who can power a civic tech ecosystem for global positive change? What surprises lie in store under our own ‘hoods?

CTIF Audio Visual Requirements

The audio-visual requirements for this year’s conference need to speak to the theme outlined above. The videos to be created need to be exciting, youthful, vibrant and inviting for potential attendees of the conference.

See below the specific collateral to be developed:

  1. Social Media Promos – CTIF Build-up Campaign Video

The social media promos are meant to drum up excitement on our platforms about the

a. Require 4 social media promotional videos of 1 – 2 minutes each.

i. Video 1 – Introducing the #UnderTheHood theme. Including a call to action for audiences to register.
ii. Video 2 – Introducing keynote speaker and performers for #UnderTheHood
iii. Video 3 – Introducing #UnderTheHood virtual exhibitions and marketplace exhibit.

2. Conference Session Videos: Welcome to CTIF2024: #UnderTheHood

a. This video must be 0.30s – 0.45s long. Video will be used to introduce sessions at the conference
b. Voiceover to be added by CTIN staff member(s)

3. Highlights Video

a. Length of video: 3 – 5 mins

4. Who/What is #UnderTheHood Campaign

  • Add animation to 10x speaker generated videos of unveiling themselves

  • Provide possible quotation for the elements provided
  • Provide example of previous work
