The Civic Tech Innovation Forum is CTIN’s annual conference, intended to enable the civic tech community and ecosystem actors to engage face-to-face, learn about innovations, tools, and techniques, share experiences, and meet potential collaborators. Hosted at the Tshimologong Digital Innovation Precinct, the 2024 edition of the Civic Tech Innovation Forum will not only bring the African civic tech community together; it will uncover the civic tech mysteries and answer a variety of questions about civic tech innovation as it currently exists
International Civic Forum 2024: Navigating Digital Trends (Re)Shaping Civic Space: Challenges and Opportunities [By Invitation Only]
Since 2016, the International Civic Forum (ICF) has convened leaders from civil society and other sectors who are at the forefront of protecting and advancing civic space around the globe. It is the annual platform for discussing key civic space issues, forging connections, and identifying opportunities for collaboration. The ICF 2024 will be held in Johannesburg, South Africa, on 31 October and 1 November, and will build synergies with the Civic Tech Innovation Forum (CTIF) 2024: #UnderTheHood. The ICF 2024 will be held immediately following the CTIF, fostering connections between the two events and allowing participants to engage in both. The ICF will bring civil society to the forefront and focus on the intersection of civic space and technology…Learn more
About #UnderTheHood
Our 2024 theme is #UnderTheHood. As per our tradition, this is a multilayered invitation to the African civic tech ecosystem and its supporters to consider the times and opportunities we are in. This year, we are getting #UnderTheHood of:
Technology: What is “under the hood” of the emerging technologies vehicle; i.e., in the tech “black box”? In an age where trust, equity, and governance are in critical focus, we want to scrutinize tech – from questions of Al transparency (Al code, data, and algorithms), all the way to understanding and building opportunities for endogenous tech development and innovation. How can we actively side-step Africa being seen only as tech victims and consumers, to greater self-determination based on knowledge and empowerment?
Community: What is within our own ‘hoods or communities? How can we spot, build, and use our local creativity, energies, and resources to develop the capacities that we collectively want and need? Who are we waiting for?
Self: And what lies under our hoodies? What talents, skills, passions, and capabilities are held in those shadows that are often assumed to hold mischief and danger? Are we hoodlums or geniuses, activists, champions, creatives, and nurturers who can power a civic tech ecosystem for global positive change? What surprises lie in store under our own ‘hoods?
Come join us in looking #UnderTheHood… who knows what we will find?!
