Grassroot is a civic tech tool plaform that uses web, a mobile app, USSD, Whatsapp and social media.

It allows mobile phone users to organise meetings, take votes, mobilise and create actions lists. Communities can also start crowdfunding campaigns to raise funds. Activists in the Mzondi community in Ivory Park have used it to raise funds for the construction of new toilets. They raised about R68 890, excedeeding their target. By October 2018, Grassroot had a total of 19 433 groups and about 169 000 users.
