Initiative Description

SafeBangle Technologies is a social enterprise based in Uganda. Their vision is to create a world without violence against women and girls. Their mission is to support women and girls when possible violence can ensue by sending an alert to their trusted network of friends and relatives using a standalone wearable safety device called the SafeBangle bracelet. Their primary target market includes pupils, students, and working class women aged 12 and older. To date, UN Women, Resilient Africa Network, and Response Innovation Lab, Digital Human Rights Lab have supported SafeBangle with seed-funding and advisory services. They have completed a fourth prototype of the SafeBangle bracelet and are ready for their next pilot. Their company is fully registered and incorporated as a social venture. The device can call for help without need for an internet connection, is affordable, and is designed to be culturally acceptable.
