Session Overview

The session titled “Ethics and Digital Rights” will explore the critical role of ethics and digital rights in shaping a robust and inclusive civic tech ecosystem. This session will delve into the underlying factors influencing ethics and digital rights that exist across the African tech ecosystem. Issues such as the shrinking of civic spaces will be addressed, as well as new ideas and approaches to mitigate the effects of these attempts, often by state actors or external parties, and plan to overcome the knock-on effects for community organisations that are working to improve civic engagement, participation and freedom of the press. The discussion will also offer solutions and action steps that can mitigating these challenges, with a specific exploration of the local contexts “hoods” o that these organisations find themselves in.
