Session Overview

South Africa has always been enthusiastic about emerging technologies and there has always been an appetite by developers / innovators to create solutions that seek address certain needs in society. Even the excitement about global-parallel technologies, uptake of solutions remain quite low and this is attributed to various factors, one of which being the fact that we have an unready market based on different digital cultures, fit for purpose, literacy competence levels, misalignment of priorities, low energy to champion and others. The future demands of us all to build / design what will be ease of use and adaptation, fitting the needs of the most marginalised communities.

In this masterclass, we will explore, get accustomed to some of the lived realities and ultimately hackathon a more inclusive future of civic tech solutions address the plight of the people. The facilitator has wide experience in developing solutions, facilitating hackathons, and most importantly has led focus groups in most marginalised communities in South Africa studying barriers and limitations in access and utilisation of civic digital solutions
