PEAR LEARNING EVENT

There’s no such thing as a Community Centre

The main No Such thing as a Community Centre workshop was hosted at the Tshimologong Hub in Braamfontein, on 27 September. It's workshop was directed at meeting the requirements of the CTIN grant, and to prompt further discussions and discovery for our research project. The Goal of the workshop was to gather a group of curious individuals who would become our grassroots research team and in doping so begin the shared research project around what makes a Community Centre what it is.

Our objectives were:

  • To gather a group of interested researchers with no formal experience required as a prerequisite, to participate in a collaborative action research process
  • To facilitate the collective unpacking of the themes related to Community Centres and their meaning in South African contexts
  • To allow for personal experiences and views to be heard in order to broaden our understanding of the subject matter, to allow others to interact with experiences unlike their own
  • To co-develop a process through which to do research
  • To expose people to our philosophy, methodology and tools of engagement
