BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF INITIATIVE
The prices of basic necessities (e.g., maize flour) are very important. If prices increase, you buy less with the same money, reducing your purchasing power. In this project, the Ministry of Economy and Finance intends to investigate the possibility of collecting reliable price data using crowd-sourcing technologies.
If it works, the advantage of this approach is that it brings data in real time, with a much more detailed geographical coverage than currently exists and at a low cost.
Based on the results, the Ministry of Economy and Finance hopes to identify the best way to collect price data and then develop a platform on a national scale.
The African Civic Tech Atlas is a work in progress (and a labour of love) for us but we may miss some initiative that needs updating. If your initiative needs to be updated on the database, kindly follow the instructions on the “Update Your Initiative” tab.
