BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF INITIATIVE

A biotech makerspace located in a rural community. Their approach of open science is three-dimensional: a) openness to publication and data, b) openness to society, and c) openness to excluded knowledge and epistemology, expressed in their biotech lab, their citizen science work around topics such as food security, Environment and Climate Change, or Open Science Hardware, as well as their Open Education scheme.

It is a space open to all offering access to free books, eco-artistic training and other paid services (internet, printing, etc.)

The African Civic Tech Atlas is a work in progress (and a labour of love) for us but we may miss some initiative that needs updating. If your initiative needs to be updated on the database, kindly follow the instructions on the “Update Your Initiative” tab.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF INITIATIVE

GiftedMom is a leading mobile health solutions provider in Africa. We leverage last mile technologies to provide pregnant women and new mothers access to health information and strengthen linkages to antenatal care. Our Vision: A world free of maternal and infant deaths.

Since 2013, GiftedMom is one of Africa’s most outstanding e-health companies engaged in improving maternal and child health (MCH) by making health information accessible and available to rural and urban communities, using innovative & low-cost mobile technologies.

We believe every mother can successfully pull through pregnancy, delivery and child-upbringing without having to face health complications which are prone to be mortal. We therefore engage mothers through mobile-based solutions to follow up their antenatal care, and immunisation sessions. Through a low-cost mobile online application called “GiftedMom” we help mothers and pregnant women access medical advice on pregnancy, breastfeeding, vaccination, family planning, contraception and the possibility of talking to a certified doctor.

Creating a network of maternal health promoters is the reason why we partner with International Organisations and NGOs in the domains of Sexual and Reproductive Health & HIV/AIDS to collect and analyse data using real-time innovative impact measurement tools; engage in community mobilisation and health education outreach campaigns.

This is an era where INFORMATION is GOLD; as such making the RIGHT information available at the right time using the most accessible IT tools is paramount. A young dynamic staff ever-ready to reach out to the mother in the least community is who we are.

We say NO TO MATERNAL and INFANT MORTALITY
